King’s Dome painting is finished!

After 34 days, 14hrs a day, the painting on the King’s Theatre dome is complete and looks pretty good. The opening to the public is tonight so I will post some pictures up tomorrow. Saying that, BBC online have a time lapse video of part of the project if you would like a sneaky preview! A big thank you to John Byrne for asking me to help him put his design on the roof and thanks to all those who helped me, assistant artists and those who helped with advice and support. More details to follow.

King’s Theatre Dome

I have not posted in a while. Apologies for that but have been extremely busy. As well as completing the Joe Hart painting I have been making preparations for painting the 10 metre diameter dome in the King’s Theatre auditorium in Edinburgh. John Byrne has designed a beautiful image and has asked me to paint it on the dome (http://www.scotsman.com/the-scotsman/scotland/john-byrne-to-create-roof-fresco-at-king-s-theatre-1-2888406. I will not have a long time to do it so I have to be fully prepared which includes painting a mock up about 8ft in diameter and gathering a small team of artists. These will include Marion Curle, Celie Byrne, Gayle Bray and most recently a fortuitous find during a visit to this weeks degree show in Fraser Gray, an MFA graduate. A great team. I will try and post some images of the work in progress, small details, as the image is not to be unveiled until the opening of the Edinburgh International Festival.

Stockbridge Market

I wandered into this market by surprise a year ago and bought some banana chutney. Having been a few times since, I really like it and thought it would be good to stand on the other side of the stall. It was good, from the hand cranked record player on the chocolate stall to the paella serving Spaniards and the positive response to my stall. Good atmosphere with lovely coffee, best hot chocolate I think I have tasted, wine, and plenty of food to eat there and take home. Pretty sure I will do it again soon. Its on every Sunday 10-5. At the bridge in Stockbridge, Edinburgh

999 bottles! and Stockbridge Market

paint toolsPicture shows some of the tools ( and the beautiful French enamel paint ) required to paint a huge amount of bottles for one of our upcoming Royal Lyceum Theatre shows. These tools and a bit of patience! Also would like to post some info about a market I am doing tomorrow, Sunday 2nd September at Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Thought it would be a bit of fun. Like many, I love a market so will be interesting to see what it will be like on the other side of the stall. Wanted to do a bit of promotion for the website too.

workshop

A set build in progress and introducing a couple of our small team, Scott and Tom.

Now open to the world!

Having spent some time building the site, preparing products, photographing artworks and working out administration it is now time to push the button and open the site fully. There is still some work to carry out, like descriptions for the Football gallery and uploading of more pictures and I will work to keep improving the site and its operation. I see it as a foundation for more creativity. Having not painted for a couple of months whilst collating and assessing a lot of my past works, the impetus to create anew is greater than ever. I hope then to update the site regularly with new pieces (hopefully with some originals for sale). This will also include news/blog style posts about my studio practice and the work I do for the theatre (see about page), and anything else that takes my interest.

Fortunately I have managed to start a painting for Joe Hart of Manchester City FC and goalkeeping fame. I will post some progress images soon. Also building more than one set for the Royal Lyceum Theatres’ new season (due to start after the Edinburgh festival, as we give up our stage to the festival for a month or so). I can’t give too much away here but thought some workshop images of set builds in progress may be interesting. Some of our past seasons’ shows can be seen in my Gallery. I will continue to illuminate this work throughout the season.

In the meantime I hope you enjoy what exists here already.

Hello world!

Getting closer to launch! I have been building the site and ensuring products are of a high quality and that all details like descriptions and packaging are all in place. Still a bit to go before I officially open for business. Will also endeavour to post news. Not something I am naturally comfortable with but hope to gain confidence as I go!
