About Us

Website

The art site of Kevin Leary featuring new and archived work, upcoming projects and a shop to buy prints and originals. I am continuing to exhibit in various places but the opportunity to promote my work to the world web directly is also very welcome. I intend to show works both for sale and not for sale, including how they are made and snapshots of work in progress. All aspects of the shop will be treated with care and I will strive to improve the place as my experience grows.

Prints

The prints featured in the site are either Lithographic prints or Giclee prints and will be detailed as such in product descriptions. All my prints are of museum quality, which is to say they are archival rated and use some of the highest quality materials available, including Hahnemuhle paper and Epson’s excellent ultrachrome pigment ink.  A lot of time, care and effort has gone into the production of them and I have personally overseen this process for every one of them.

Football

In 1996 I was approached by an advertising agency to paint a portrait of Rangers FC player, Richard Gough for his testimonial year. The resulting painting was auctioned at his benefit evening at the Hilton Hotel, where I was invited to attend and fortunate to be seated beside Charlie Miller and John Robertson amongst others. Andy Cameron hosted the evening and unfortunately Bernard Manning provided supposed comedy. The portrait was a success and since then I have painted almost 50 portraits of International footballers. Mostly these are commissioned by the players and are of a significant moment in their career. The highlight of this process was possibly asking Henrik Larsson to sign my Dundee Utd strip. I wanted a photo of him wearing it but couldn’t ask! As a Dundee Utd fan and still an avid player of the game. I am lucky enough to combine two of the things I love in life; art and football.

Theatre

I am also working for the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company in Edinburgh as a scenic artist. Apart from building and painting theatre sets this post involves erecting the sets on stage and has inspired me to create an archive/series of images detailing this process and its end results. The final stage of a production involves unloading the many pieces of set from a large truck and putting them together on stage. This includes rigging and focusing lighting and installing any audio/visual effects required for the show. It brings together all production and technical departments and is the culmination of weeks/months of hard work. As a scenic artist for the Lyceum Theatre I have been fortunate to be part of all this energy and I have been documenting it for years. I have long been aware that this subject matter could offer some beautiful and interesting images. Please also see my images of the Paintshop floor. These have been ongoing but some were produced as prints for an exhibition earlier this year.

Landscape

I have returned time and again to painting landscapes; the colours, details and sense of wonder are a constant draw.
